Docsend's product is horizontal—it can be useful for many workflows in different industries—but its marketing is verticalized. It identified startup fundraising as a key vertical and has built a playbook that's working really well. This role will execute that playbook, using Docsend's data platform to fuel interesting, insightful and unique content.
As Alex mentioned in the video, he's not looking for someone to create obvious SEO posts like, "What Is Startup Fundraising?" Rather, he's looking for someone to analyze what makes for a good pitch deck, study the types of companies and people that successfully pitch investors and create resources that founders can easily put into practice.
Of note: Docsend is also hiring a new Director of Content & Communications. You'll report to this person and should read/watch the job listing for additional context.
Here are a few things we love about this role:
- SEO is important, but insights are better. Russ emphasized that content has been extremely effective for Docsend. That's because the team has prioritized insights and ideas over mass distribution. Take a look at its Startup Index to see an example of that (and to get an idea of the type of content you'd be creating).
- A proven content track record. Docsend published its first startup fundraising report more than five years ago. You'll be taking the torch from an experienced team who's figured out to use content to drive customers and revenue. The foundation has been built, your job is to take it to the next level.
- A real commitment to data. Docsend has created a data warehouse that the marketing team uses to find insights and supporting evidence for content and other marketing materials. You ask the right questions and the business intelligence team can find the answers.
This isn't your average content creator role. It's an opportunity to be a high-level individual contributor at a company where your work is valuable.
Docsend is a secure way to send files. Companies use it to send pitch decks, sales assets, financial info and so much more. It has raised ~$15 million and has about 15,000 customers. It relies entirely on inbound marketing and is cash-flow positive.
