ScaleMath is hiring a remote content lead. This person will work with founder Alex Panagis to deliver top-notch writing to ScaleMath's clients.

This is a job for a content "geek," and I mean that in the best way possible. As Alex described (and make sure you listen to the full interview above), he's looking for someone who obsesses over the details. Yes, you should be a good writer, but you should also understand the underlying mechanics of good writing. Folks who understand those mechanics can more easily teach others and turn great writing into a repeatable process.
Here are a few things I really like about this job:
- ScaleMath is just over a year old. This is a chance to join a young and growing company. As I often say, positioning yourself for growth is a great way to accelerate your career. It does, of course, come with some risks (not every company turns out to be a rocket ship), but it nearly guarantees that you'll not only learn and grow faster than you might at a later-stage company but will also be able to see the direct impact of your work.
- ScaleMath values great writing. It's how they attract customers and deliver great work. This means that if you love writing, your incentives are aligned with ScaleMath's. This is really, really important. You want to work in an environment that values the same things that you value.
- There is opportunity for growth. Alex would like to see the Content Lead grow into the Head of Content and manage a team of other Content Leads. I really appreciate that he's thinking 1-2 years down the road at this early stage. As my co-founder, Walter Chen says, "thinking long-term is a competitive advantage."
Alex mentioned wanting to hire a "manager of one." Here's what that means, per Basecamp's article on this topic: "A manager of one is someone who comes up with their own goals and executes them. They don’t need heavy direction. They don’t need daily check-ins. They do what a manager would do — set the tone, assign items, determine what needs to get done, etc. — but they do it by themselves and for themselves."
ScaleMath is an SEO and marketing agency. They prefer to work with customers that are focused on long-term, sustainable growth and invested in dominating a market. It's a startup and an agency—one of the reasons this is such a great opportunity for people in content is partly just the companies they'd have the ability to work with and also joining a company where career growth would simply be a bi-product of performing exceptionally in their role rather than something you'd have to hope for someday.
We're really excited about this role. It's a chance to accelerate your career and while it's not for everyone, it absolutely is for a strong writer ready to help ScaleMath and their clients.
